I don't feel so good right now. I just went to Board & Brew and shared a Turkado and a Turkey Deluxe with John, and the food's lack of distinct flavors has left me feeling sick. I don't get it. Board & Brew has gotten a number of rave reviews over many years; I've heard it's supposed to be better than Girard Gourmet, a favorite of mine.
For the Turkado: I requested alfalfa sprouts, in place of lettuce, and really liked the fresh slices of sourdough bread, fresh sprouts, and chunky tomatoes. But the sandwich lacked something... mustard, maybe... grated carrots, possibly... it left much to be desired. The Turkey Deluxe was not nearly as good as the Turkado. The hodge podge of mayonnaise and their house sweet and sour sauce was a disjointed mix. And the turkey? Very bland and may have been appetizing if dressed in dijon mustard. Cucumber would have given the soft sandwich some texture and crunch.
Sometimes, the first impression of a restaurant gives some indication to the quality of food served there, and in this case, I should have listened to my inner voice. The Turkado is worth stopping in for when I'm in the neighborhood again.
