New Seoul BBQ

Remember the good old days when New Seoul BBQ was Seoul BBQ? When the decor was simpler and more modest, and the lunch menu prices were half what they are now? I miss those days of paying $6 for a three-course meal of soup, appetizers, and a bento box of goodies.

Appetizers

For $11 now, I get the same thing, but gone is the excitement of getting a lot of bang for the money. The food is still quite delicious, and it really should be a crime for food to taste this good. The meats are grilled perfectly, the salad is fresh and crisp, the fried sushi roll is tender, and the tempura pieces, dipped in the tempura sauce provided, are so tasty. I'm licking my lips just recalling this afternoon's lunch.

Bento Box

Look at the beautiful lacquer case that the bento box is served in!

One negative aspect of New Seoul BBQ is the lack of ventilation in the dining room. There was a moment during the meal that smoke from the kitchen drifted like a gray haze over my table, and the smoke filled my nostrils and stung my eyes. But having eaten here for ten years, I welcome smoke, and I will hold my breath and shut my eyes for a fleeting taste of the Bulgogi and glutinous rice.

I would eat here every week if not for knowing that I used to pay half what I do now for all this food. It's still worth coming here every once in awhile.
